John Stevens Henslow was a naturalist, a Cambridge academic, and a friend and mentor of Charles Darwin. He was also one of the founders of the Cambridge Philosophical Society in 1819, and played a key role in establishing the Botanic Garden and the Natural Sciences Tripos.
Henslow was initially pointed out to young Darwin at Christ’s College as ‘the man who knows everything’. For Henslow, the interaction with Darwin led to a life-long friendship.
