Gerard ’t Hooft erhielt 1995 den Spinoza-Preis und 1999 den Nobelpreis für Physik gemeinsam mit Martinus Veltman für ihre entscheidenden Beiträge zur Quantenfeldtheorie und speziell den Renormierungsbeweis der Theorie der elektroschwachen Wechselwirkung. 1999 erhielt er den High Energy and Particle Physics Prize der EPS.
Gerardus (Gerard) ’t Hooft (Dutch: [ˈɣeːrɑrt ət ˈɦoːft]; born July 5, 1946) is a Dutch theoretical physicist and professor at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. He shared the 1999 Nobel Prize in Physics with his thesis advisor Martinus J. G. Veltman "for elucidating the quantum structure of electroweak interactions ".
