Arthur Cayley FRS (/ ˈ k eɪ l i /; 16 August 1821 – 26 January 1895) was a British mathematician who worked mostly on algebra. He helped found the modern British school of pure mathematics. As a child, Cayley enjoyed solving complex maths problems for amusement.

Cayley, Arthur. Mathematiker, geb. 16.8.1821 Richmond, gest. 26.1.1895 Cambridge. Cayley war der Sohn eines Geschäftsmannes, der enge Verbindungen nach Rußland hatte. Einen großen Teil seiner Kindheit verbrachte er in St. Petersburg. Ab 1839 studierte Cayley in Cambridge.
