Mamang Dai is an Indian poet, novelist and journalist based in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. She received Sahitya Akademi Award in 2017 for her novel The Black Hill.

The present paper aims to project this gradual mutation of identities undergone by the Adi and Mishmee tribes of the Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh through the novel The Black Hill by Mamang Dai-an ex-civil servant belonging to the Adi tribe.
