He inherited the baronetcy on the death of his elder brother. After the Restoration (1660) he was a prominent member of the group.

Sir Charles Sedley — reputedly one of the wittiest (as well as one of the most scandalous) of the Restoration courtiers — has left a body of plays, poems and other works, none of which, however, is known to survive in his own hand.
