The Albertus Van Loon House (/ v æ n ˈ l oʊ n /, like van loan) is a 1.5 story native stone home in the village of Athens, New York, United States. Built in 1724 by Albertus Van Loon, one of eight children of Jan Van Loon , [5] it is one of the oldest extant buildings in its part of New York State .
The Town of Athens is located at the eastern end of Greene County, and was established on February 25th, 1815. Portions of the Towns of Catskill and Coxsackie were used to form the Town of Athens. The town has since developed a rich heritage with diverse architecture spanning over three centuries.
Athens is a River Region town and Greene County NY’s first incorporated village. People have lived and worked here since the late 1600s. Once a bustling port for shipbuilding, brick making, and ice harvesting on the Hudson River, Athens’ is now known for its charming architecture, welcoming community and restaurants, and annual festivals.
