The Curtiss XP-46 was a 1940s American prototype fighter aircraft. It was a development of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation in an effort to introduce the best features found in European fighter aircraft in 1939 into a fighter aircraft which could succeed the Curtiss P-40, then in production.

Die Curtiss XP-46 war ein Kampfflugzeug der Vereinigten Staaten aus den 1940er Jahren. Es war eine Entwicklung der Curtiss-Wright Corporation in dem Bemühen, die besten Eigenschaften, die in europäischen Kampfflugzeugen gefunden wurden, 1939 in ein Kampfflugzeug einzuführen, das die Curtiss P-40 ablösen konnte, die dann in Produktion ging.
Es war der Nachfolger der Curtiss P-1 von 1925, auf deren P1-B -Basis sie entstand. Die P-6 wurden in diversen Varianten hergestellt. Die Maschinen besaßen einen Curtiss-V-1570-12-Zylinder-V-Motor und waren aerodynamisch besser geformt als die alten P-1. Die P-6 kam ab 1929 zum Einsatz und war eines der wendigsten Flugzeuge seiner Zeit.
