The name remained until Etna was incorporated in September 16, 1868.The name "Etna" was said to have been chosen because the topography of the area surrounding the town was similar to that found near the famous volcano in Sicily, Mount Aetna. Other sources say it was applied to many other industries in the area owned by Spang in 1828.
Over a six-month period in 2021, Etna erupted so much volcanic material that its height increased by approximately 100 ft (30 m), and the southeastern crater is now the tallest part of the volcano. [6] Etna covers an area of 1,190 km 2 (459 sq mi) with a basal circumference of 140 km (87 miles).
