Rowdy (officially Rowdy the Roadrunner) is the mascot of the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners. He appears at athletic events, such as football and basketball games, and other university sponsored events.

The UTSA Roadrunners is a collegiate athletic program that represents the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The UTSA Roadrunners are also commonly referred to as " UTSA ", " Roadrunners ", or " Runners ", and are represented by the mascot Rowdy.

Mascot Rowdy the Roadrunner. In 1977, UTSA hosted an election to determine a school mascot. Many choices were considered, including the armadillo, stars, eagle, jaguar, roadrunner, puma, toro, and vaquero. The armadillos and stars won the election, knocking the roadrunner from contention.
Rowdy the Roadrunner has been the UTSA mascot since 1977 when it was decided in a 2-1 student vote. Originally the two contenders for the mascot were the armadillos and the stars.
Today, more than 30 years after Gonzalez’s first appearance as the Roadrunner, the operations manager for Lonestar Radiator Co. in San Antonio remembers the thrill of hatching out of an egg that he and cheerleaders had built for that first game at HemisFair Arena against the University of Arkansas.
Rowdy was born and raised on the edge of the beautiful Texas Hill Country in San Antonio de Bexar. At an early age, he was a prodigy in cheering, inspiring, and motivating. Rowdy became a young adult and his talents shined so bright, that a University sprung to honor his awesomeness. What University you ask?
