Catharine Lorre was the only child of the Hollywood actor Peter Lorre, who died of a stroke in 1964. She survived a near-fatal encounter with the notorious serial killers Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, who posed as police officers and murdered 10 women in Los Angeles.
Catharine was the daughter of actor Peter Lorre and Anne Marie Brenning Lorre. She was nearly abducted by the Hillside Stranglers in 1977, but survived and died in 1985.

Lorre was married three times: Celia Lovsky (1934 – March 13, 1945, divorced); Kaaren Verne (May 25, 1945 – 1950, divorced) and Anne Marie Brenning (July 21, 1953 – March 23, 1964, his death). In 1953, Brenning bore Lorre's only child, Catharine. Anne Marie Brenning died in 1971.
