Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, KG, KBE (* 20. Juli 1919 in Auckland; † 11. Januar 2008 ebenda) war ein neuseeländischer Bergsteiger. Zusammen mit dem nepalesischen Bergsteiger Tenzing Norgay, einem Sherpa, gelang ihm am 29. Mai 1953 die Erstbesteigung des Mount Everest, des höchsten Berges der Erde.
Sir Edmund Percival Hillary KG ONZ KBE (20 July 1919 – 11 January 2008) was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist. On 29 May 1953, Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest.

Juli 1998 · Edmund Hillary, New Zealand mountain climber and Antarctic explorer who, with the Nepali-Indian mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, became the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, in 1953. He founded the Himalayan Trust, which contributed to the welfare of the peoples of Nepal, in 1960.

Sir Edmund Hillary died in Auckland on 11 January 2008, aged 88. He was farewelled at a state funeral – a rare honour for a private citizen – on 22 January.
Edmund Hillary, the legendary mountaineer, adventurer and philanthropist – whose familiar, craggy face beams out from the $5 note – is the best-known New Zealander ever to have lived. Hillary was a shy child who dreamed of adventure.
