Die Enterprise (englisch für Unternehmen, Unternehmung) ist ein Prototyp für die Raumfähren aus dem Space-Shuttle-Programm der US-Raumfahrtbehörde NASA. Die interne Bezeichnung lautet OV-101 . Der Name „Enterprise“ geht auf das fiktive Raumschiff Enterprise aus der Science-Fiction-Serie Star Trek zurück.
Space Shuttle Enterprise (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-101) was the first orbiter of the Space Shuttle system. Rolled out on September 17, 1976, it was built for NASA as part of the Space Shuttle program to perform atmospheric test flights after being launched from a modified Boeing 747 . [1]
Zunächst wurde zur Erprobung der Flugeigenschaften in der Erdatmosphäre das Test-Shuttle Enterprise gebaut. Danach wurden fünf Orbiter für den Einsatz im Weltraum gebaut, diese hießen Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis und Endeavour. Challenger und Columbia wurden durch Unglücke zerstört.
