Anfangs spielte die Band vor allem Soul- und Bluesstücke von Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry und John Lee Hooker . Der Legende nach wurde die Band vom Publikum wegen ihres wilden Auftretens oder ihrer „animalischen“ Musik „Animals“ genannt, worauf sie sich später entsprechend umbenannte. [1]
