Writers and Illustrators of the Future is a science fiction and fantasy story and art contest that was established by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 as Writers of the Future. A sister contest, Illustrators of the Future, was launched in 1988 and presents awards for science fiction art.
On the evening of Thursday, April 25, 2024, 350 guests were gathered at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, California, for the Oscar-like gala celebrating four decades of winners of the L. Ron Hubbard Writers and Illustrators of the Future, now totaling 965 from 50 countries.
Renowned author and critic Algis Budrys led the original Writers of the Future Contest, with a blue-ribbon panel of science fiction legends serving as judges: Dr. Gregory Benford, Robert Silverberg, Theodore Sturgeon, Jack Williamson, and Roger Zelazny.
