The Chicago Academy for the Arts, founded in 1981, is an independent high school for the performing and visual arts located in the River West neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It was named a National School of Distinction by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Im Jahre 1866 gründeten 35 Künstler die Chicago Academy of Design in einem Studio. Absicht war es eine unabhängige Schule mit angeschlossener Kunst-Galerie zu betreiben. 1878 hatte die Schule hohe Schulden und musste deshalb Insolvenz anmelden. Die Einrichtung wurde von der eigens gegründeten Chicago Academy of Fine Arts übernommen.
