5. Feb. 1991 · Veteran character actor Dean Jagger, who won a best supporting Oscar for 1949's "Twelve O'Clock High," died at his Santa Monica home today, his wife said.
Jagger visited Los Angeles on a vaudeville show with Irene Rich. While there, he made his film debut in The Woman from Hell (1929) with Mary Astor . "My good notices," he later recalled, "had a reverse effect on the industry, which was suddenly revolutionized by sound pictures.
