  1. History. Doane College was founded on July 11, 1872, by Thomas Doane, chief civil engineer for the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad. David Brainerd Perry was the first college president. He served until his death in 1912. Doane College was renamed Doane University in May 2016.

  2. As a history major at Doane University, students learn how to shape their historical consciousness, and learn ways the past continuously influences the present. Our curriculum covers the history of both Western and Non-Western cultures, from the Roman Period through to contemporary times.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district, there are three buildings included: Gaylord Hall, Whitcomb Conservatory/Lee Memorial Chapel, and Boswell Observatory .
