8. Sept. 2017 · Couples. Fabricated in cast aluminum, the two figures in Couple (2003) are meant to hold on to each other for eternity. Bourgeois suffered from a lifelong fear of separation and abandonment, a dread rooted in the events of her early childhood.
The Couple. – Art is manipulation without the intervention. As an adult, French-born Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010) moved to New York City, where she worked for the rest of her life. She had previously studied mathematics before shed decided upon pursuing a career as an artist.

Curator, Deborah Wye: The Couple, from 2003, is an example of Bourgeois’ concern with sexual imagery. You also see her concern with relationships. She never said who was in this scene, but you recognize her very long hair, which was a signature motif.
