Rick Margitza (born October 24, 1961) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Biography. Margitza's paternal grandfather, a Hungarian Gypsy violinist, taught him to play the violin at the age of four. His father also played violin with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

About Rick Margitza. Born in Detroit, Rick Margitza has studied classical saxophone with Donald Sinta at the university of Michigan, and jazz with Sonny Stitt, Gerry Niewood, Michael Brecker, and Gary Campbell and David Liebman.
Excellent tenor and soprano saxophonist, mostly inspired by John Coltrane, Michael Brecker and Wayne Shorter, he has managed to expand and develop his unique voice, highly poetic and sharply incisive. He studied with Sonny Stitt, Gerry Niewood, Michael Brecker and David Liebman.
So erlernte Margitza bereits im Alter von vier Jahren das Violinspiel, später kam eine klassische Klavierausbildung hinzu. Unter dem Eindruck der Musik von Charlie Parker wechselte er an der Junior High School zum Saxophon.
