Bureaucracy (/ b j ʊəˈr ɒ k r ə s i /; bure-OK-rə-see) is a system of organization where decisions are made by a body of non-elected officials. Historically, a bureaucracy was a government administration managed by departments staffed with non-elected officials.
Bureaucracy, specific form of organization defined by complexity, division of labor, permanence, professional management, hierarchical coordination and control, strict chain of command, and legal authority. It is distinguished from informal and collegial organizations.

1. Jan. 2016 · The German sociologist and political economist Max Weber was the first to formalize the concept of bureaucracy (Weber 1978: 956–1005). This entry describes and extends his definition of bureaucracy, which emphasizes six interrelated features of organizations:
