Find out about the different types of modules and how to select the modules that will make up your programme of study. Your degree course will be made up of compulsory, optional and discovery modules, all of which have a credit value which you need to earn to progress on to your next year.

Compulsory modules. To pass your qualification, there will be a series of core modules which you are required to study as part of the course. You will automatically be enrolled for these. Optional modules. On most programmes, you will be given the chance to choose from a list of optional modules.
A total of 120 credits over the year. A maximum of 40 credits may be taken outside the School of English as Discovery modules at Level 3. The 40-credit Final Year Project module runs over both semesters 1 and 2 and is counted as 20 credits in semester 1 and 20 credits in semester 2. ENGL2023. Power of Language.
