Im prüden Amerika konnte Anthony Perkins seine Beziehungen zu Männern nicht offen ausleben. Um freier zu leben und seine Schauspielkarriere nach „Psycho“ anzukurbeln, zog er Anfang der 60er Jahre nach Paris. 1973 heiratete er schließlich die junge Fotografin Berry Berenson, die ihn bereits als Zwölfjährige aus der Ferne angeschmachtet hatte. Sie bekamen zwei Söhne.
