März 2023 · For our band members and friends that couldn’t record in Tucson, we sent tracks around the globe — from the States to Mexico, Spain, Germany and Italy — giving the album a special spark. The final results made their way to Portland, OR, where our friend Tucker Martine mixed the majority of what came to be El Mirador.
Calexico is an American indie rock band based in Tucson, Arizona. Founded in 1996, the band's two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand.

“I’ve been playing with Calexico for about 15 years, and I admire Joey and John’s constant search for new sounds,” reflects Mendoza, who’s newly built home studio became a refuge for the band and reduced pandemic risks while fostering a more organic creative process. “After so many albums,” he adds, “I’m really proud we were able to achieve something so fresh together.”
