The whole thing began as an exercise by eight free-lance singers. The group was bored by the simple fare available in the studios, for this was an era dominated by pop and early rock.
He saw Bach as primarily a composer of music that danced, that razor-sharp rhythm and perfect intonation made up the road to success, because these things clarified Bach's intricate textures and moved the music along. He enhanced the singers' rhythm with a rhythm continuo of string bass and drum kit, never overdone.
Going Baroque (released as Going Baroque: de Bach aux Baroques in France) is the second album released by the Paris -based Swingle Singers. The album was a 1964 Grammy award winner for " Best Performance by a Chorus ."
