Cordova ( / kɔːrˈdoʊvə, ˈkɔːrdəvə / kor-DOH-və, KOR-də-və) is a city in Chugach Census Area, [a] Alaska, United States. It lies near the mouth of the Copper River, at the head of Orca Inlet on the east side of Prince William Sound. The population was 2,609 at the 2020 census, up from 2,239 in 2010. [6]
With the Sound’s largest fishing fleet and a cool rainforest climate at the base of towering mountains, Cordova has the maritime feel of a mossy community you might find in Southeast Alaska. Located on the mainland, about 50 miles southeast of Valdez and 150 miles from Anchorage, Cordova can only be reached by air or by boat.

Cordova is a community on Prince William Sound in the Gulf of Alaska. The town sits on Orca Inlet, in the southeastern portion of the Sound. With Eyak Mountain rising above the town, Cordova is surrounded by untamed wilderness and naturally protected waters. It lies 52 air miles southeast of Valdez and 150 miles southeast of Anchorage.
