Egremont / ˈɛɡrəmənt / is a market town, civil parish and two electoral wards in Cumbria, England, and historically part of Cumberland. It is situated just outside the Lake District National Park, five miles (eight kilometres) south of Whitehaven and on the River Ehen .
Egremont is a small market town, which has held a market charter since 1267. It has a wide main street, overlooked by the remains of a Norman Castle. Egremont Castle was built about 1130. and stands on a mound above the River Ehen. The ditches are well preserved.
Egremont is an attractive market town on the River Ehen, five miles south of Whitehaven in the west of Cumbria. The town lies at the base of Dent Fell, in the Uldale Valley. Egremont has a long heritage as a centre for weaving, fulling, and dyeing cloth. Mining iron ore in the region began as early as AD 1150 and continues to this day.
