5. März 2020 · This reissue of a 1974 album finds the legendary Billy Eckstine trying to find traction in a long career. Caught in a time that was the nadir of jazz vocals (not even Tony Bennett could find a label!), Eckstine turned to Stax Records to mix a bit of pop and soul together.
Billy Eckstine (* 8. Juli 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania als William Clarence Eckstein; † 8. März 1993 ebenda) war ein US-amerikanischer Jazz sänger und Bandleader, der auch Trompete, Posaune und Gitarre spielte. Er trat auch kurzzeitig als Billy X. Stine auf.
