Operating under the name London Weekend Television (LWT), the company began broadcasting in 1968, initially from Associated Rediffusion’s former Wembley studios. In 1972, LWT moved to custom-built facilities on London’s South Bank, which were later renamed The London Studios in 1992.
The successful weekend consortium eventually decided on London Weekend Television (LWT). As Thames needed only the central London offices at Television House, Rediffusion's Wembley studios - along with many of its staff - were picked up by LWT.
