The National Order of the Legion of Honour ( French: Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur [ɔʁdʁ nɑsjɔnal də la leʒjɔ̃ dɔnœʁ] ), formerly the Royal Order of the Legion of Honour ( Ordre royal de la Légion d'honneur ), is the highest French order of merit, both military and civil.
History. The organization was founded on December 18, 1878, in Boston, Massachusetts, by Dr. Darius Wilson and nine others. [2] . Some of the founders had helped found the Royal Arcanum. On January 1, 1869, the founders, along with the rest of the members of the Legion of Honor, held their first official meeting as Sigma Nu. [7] [8] The fraternity's existence remained secret until the founders publicly announced their new society on January 1, 1869.

14. Nov. 2021 · For its pavilion, France built a three-quarters temporary replica of the Palais de la Légion d’Honneur, which had been constructed in Paris in the 1780s. Originally built by architect Pierre Rousseau as the Hotel de Salm for a German Prince, it was nationalized and renamed after the French revolution.
