Die Ramolino waren eine seit 250 Jahren auf Korsika ansässige Patrizierfamilie, die aus der Toskana auf die Insel eingewandert war, als diese eine genuesische Kolonie wurde, ähnlich wie die aus Ligurien stammende Patrizierfamilie Bonaparte.
Laetitia Ramolino war die Mutter von Kaiser Napoleon I. Sie trug auch den Beinamen Madame Mère. Geboren wurde Laetitia oder Letizia Ramolino am 24. August 1750 im korsischen Ajaccio. Die Mittelmeerinsel Korsika gehörte seinerzeit zum italienischen Genua.
Maria-Letizia Bonaparte (née Ramolino; 24 August 1750 or 1749 – 2 February 1836), known as Letizia Bonaparte, was a Corsican noblewoman and the mother of Napoleon I of France. She received the title "Madame Mère" (French for "Madame Mother") due to her status as the Emperor's mother.
Bis 1778 hatte Letizia drei weitere Kinder zur Welt gebracht: Lucien, Elisa und Louis. Mit fast 30 Jahren bekam sie ihr zehntes Kind, Pauline, und 15 Monate später ihr elftes, Carolina. Der Haushalt war mit Kindern, einer Reihe von Verwandten und einer Krankenschwester quasi überfüllt, Letizias Talent zur Einhaltung von Disziplin wurde beansprucht.
