Dieppe (French pronunciation:; Norman: Dgieppe) is a coastal commune in the Seine-Maritime department, Normandy, northern France. Dieppe is a seaport on the English Channel at the mouth of the river Arques. A regular ferry service runs to Newhaven in England.
Das Département wurde 1792 unter dem Namen Seine-Inférieure gegründet und bestand aus den sieben Bezirken Cany, Caudebec-en-Caux, Dieppe, Gournay, Montivilliers, Neufchâtel, Rouen. 1800 wurden die Arrondissements Dieppe, Le Havre, Rouen, Neufchâtel und Yvetot gegründet, die beiden letztgenannten wurden 1926 aufgelöst.
