The Cicognini National Boarding School is a private Catholic primary and secondary school located in Prato, Tuscany, Italy. Established by the Jesuits in c. 1692, the school is the oldest school in the city and follows the legacy of Francesco Cicognini.
A boarding school is a school where pupils live within premises while being given formal instruction. The word "boarding" is used in the sense of "room and board", i.e. lodging and meals. As they have existed for many centuries, and now extend across many countries, their functioning, codes of conduct and ethos vary greatly.
A Royal Decree of 1882 instituted the Regio Convitto Nazionale [Royal National Boarding School]. In 1950 it assumed its present name, in honour of the Canon Francesco Cicognini, thanks to whose legacy it had been instituted. On the facade of the school is a circular glass quadrant with 12 Roman numerals in iron standing out in relief.
