Horatio Alger Jr. (/ ˈ æ l dʒ ər /; January 13, 1832 – July 18, 1899) was an American author who wrote young adult novels about impoverished boys and their rise from humble backgrounds to middle-class security and comfort through good works.
Since 1947, more than 750 distinguished individuals from all walks of life and diverse professional backgrounds have received the Horatio Alger Award. There are currently more than 300 living Horatio Alger Members.
Horatio Alger Association is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization that honors outstanding individuals who personify the American Dream.
