Marie Louise of Hesse-Kassel (7 February 1688 – 9 April 1765) was a Dutch regent, Princess of Orange by marriage to John William Friso, Prince of Orange, and regent of the Netherlands during the minority of her son and her grandson. The Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel (German: Landgrafschaft Hessen-Kassel), spelled Hesse-Cassel during its entire existence, also known as the Hessian Palatinate (German: Hessische Pfalz), was a state of the Holy Roman Empire. The state was created in 1567 when the Landgraviate of Hesse was divided upon the death of Philip I, Landgrave of Hesse.
With Marie of Hesse-Kassel, an extraordinary princess, whose story has wrongly been forgotten, died on 14 January 1772. The daughter of King George II of Great Britain was betrothed as a child to the future Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse-Kassel, with whom she was to have four sons.
