Roar-ee the Lion is the current incarnation of the Columbia Lion, the official mascot of Columbia University and the Columbia Lions. Already a long established symbol of the university, it was first adopted as the university's mascot in 1910 under the name "Leo Columbiae", and was renamed Roar-ee the Lion in 2005.

26. Mai 2018 · Published: October 17, 2005. On Saturday, October 15 at Baker Field, over 10,000 fans welcomed the newest member of the Columbia family. Roar-ee, the new Columbia Lions mascot, made its debut before kickoff of the Columbia Homecoming game vs. Penn.

31. März 2022 · Today, we know the Columbia Lion affectionately as Roar-EE (read on to learn why!). One fun fact before we get to that, though: In 1917, studio publicist Howard Dietz (CC'1917) designed the “Leo the Lion” logo for Samuel Goldwyn’s Goldwyn Picture Corporation. He based it on the Columbia College Lions athletic team.
