WEA Records war ein deutsches Tonträgerunternehmen und existierte als Unternehmen von 1971 bis 2004. Geschichte. 1971 war das Startjahr für die Tochtergesellschaft von Warner Music, WEA Records, in Deutschland und in Frankreich. Die deutsche Niederlassung bekam 1972 den Namen WEA Records.
Die Wurzeln der WMG liegen in der Gründung von Warner Bros. Records, als Teil der Warner Bros. Filmstudios, im Jahr 1958. 1970 wurde Warner Music International (WMI) als „WEA International“ gegründet; „WEA“ steht für „Warner-Elektra-Atlantic“.
Atlantic Records entwickelte sich nach Gründung im Jahr 1947 zum größten Independent-Label der USA, spezialisiert auf Jazz - und insbesondere Rhythm-and-Blues -, Doo-Wop - und Soul -Aufnahmen. Es war stilprägend und einflussreich auch für die Entwicklung des Rhythm & Blues und Soul.
