The fort lay at the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall near the banks of the River Tyne. It was in use for approximately 300 years from around 122 AD to almost 400. Today Segedunum is the most thoroughly excavated fort along Hadrian's Wall, and is operated as Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths and Museum.
Segedunum was a Roman fort built in AD 122 to guard the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall. Today, you can explore the excavated site, the museum, the bath house and the viewing tower at this World Heritage Site.

4 min read. Standing at the easternmost point of Hadrian’s Wall and guarding the mouth of the River Tyne lies the remains of the Roman fort of Segedunum. Built in AD127, Segedunum was in fact part of an extension to Hadrian’s Wall, built some five years after the main construction project had begun.
Segedunum war ein römisches Hilfstruppenkastell auf dem Gemeindegebiet ( Parish) von Wallsend, District North Tyne, County Tyne and Wear, England . Es gehörte zu der aus insgesamt 16 Kastellen bestehenden Festungskette des Hadrianswalls ( per lineam valli) und sicherte dessen östlichen Endpunkt am Ufer des Tyne.
