The history of Los Angeles began in 1781 when 44 settlers from central New Spain (modern Mexico) established a permanent settlement in what is now Downtown Los Angeles, as instructed by Spanish Governor of Las Californias, Felipe de Neve, and authorized by Viceroy Antonio María de Bucareli.

4. Sept. 2021 · Los Angeles was founded on September 4, 1781 by 44 people (known as Los Pobladores) who traveled from Sonora and Sinaloa to establish a pueblo for the Spanish empire.
In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and became part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood.
In the fall of 1781, California Gov. Felipe de Neve and 44 settlers from Sonora and Mazatlán established a pueblo near a river they called Río de Porciúncula, where the Native American village of Yang-na (or Yabit) was located.
