Julian Beck (May 31, 1925 – September 14, 1985) was an American actor, stage director, poet, and painter. He is best known for co-founding and directing the Living Theatre, as well as his role as Reverend Henry Kane, the malevolent preacher in the supernatural horror film Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986).
14. Feb. 2024 · Julian Beck played the iconic villain Reverend Kane in Poltergeist 2, but he was dying of stomach cancer during filming. He passed away before post-production was completed, and his lines were re-recorded by a sound-alike.
Julian Beck was a pioneer of experimental theatre and performance art, who co-founded The Living Theatre with his wife Judith Malina in 1947. He also appeared in films such as The Cotton Club, Poltergeist II and 9½ Weeks, and died of cancer in 1985.
