Stephen Percy Harris (born 12 March 1956) is an English musician, best known as the bassist, keyboardist, backing vocalist, primary songwriter and founder/leader of heavy metal band Iron Maiden. He has been the band's only constant member since their inception in 1975 and, along with guitarist Dave Murray , the only member to appear on every album.
7. Okt. 2023 · Steve Harris: When I started writing my own stuff, it was with a lot of combinations and time changes and power. I wanted to do my first real song with Smiler, but when I brought it to them, they said: “Oh shit, this has too many time changes. We’re not bloody doing this!” I couldn’t handle that attitude, so I left and formed Iron Maiden.
- Eigentlich wollte Steve Harris Profifußballer werden — dann entdeckte er die Beatles. Okay, zugegeben… Das wissen viele von euch wohl schon: Bereits als Kind kickt Harris in unterschiedlichen Fußballclubs, zunächst als Amateur.
- Als Manager Rod Smallwood Iron Maiden zum ersten Mal sah, stand Steve Harris am Mikro. Eigentlich möchte Rod Smallwood dem Musikgeschäft nach seiner Arbeit als Manager für Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel ja den Rücken zukehren.
- Steve Harris und Bruce Dickinson hatten am Anfang große Differenzen — vor allem auf der Bühne. In seiner Biografie What Does This Button Do? schreibt Iron-Maiden-Sänger Bruce Dickinson, dass sein Status als Frontmann nicht immer selbstverständlich war.
- Vor einem Auftritt wärmt sich Harris nie auf. Was Iron Maiden auf die Bühne bringen ist eine imposante Metalshow und echter Leistungssport. Umso erstaunlicher scheint es, dass Steve Harris sich laut eigener Aussage nicht aufwärmt, wenn ein Gig bevorsteht.
