Estadio Atanasio Girardot opened on 19 March 1953. The stadium was remodelled in 2011 for the U-20 World Cup that was played in Colombia that year. Along with being the home of both Medellín clubs, the stadium has also occasionally hosted matches of the Colombian national team.
