Heralded as one of the worlds child prodigies Derek Trucks proved to be one to place your musical bets on. In his early teens he was asked to play with BB King and The Allman Brothers Band, with whom he still holds a spot. He has played in his own Grammy winning Derek Trucks band as well as his newest Grammy winning pairing with Susan Tedeschi, his wife. Keep hittin' the note.
Derek Trucks appreciation post. So as a 50+ year old who has just within the last year dove back into vinyl, I would like to say how much I am in awe of the alien man that is Derek Trucks. I am a big SRV fan, and I stumbled on the Tedeschi Trucks tiny desk concert on YouTube and was blown away, just blown away by his guitar playing.
Phil Lesh & Friends at Temple University, November 1999- Okay this one's a deep cut. Phil took Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes on tour in the fall of '99 and I swear it's some of the most beautiful communication between musicians you'll ever hear outside of classic Grateful Dead or John Coltrane.
26. Sept. 2021 · I took drum lessons from Yonrico Scott for about 2 years back when I was in college. I started getting into Derek Trucks after seeing him play with the Allman Brothers in 2005. I suggest starting with the Derek Trucks Band albums. They date back to 1998. One is a live album from the Georgia Theatre.

Derek is easily one of the best guitarists alive right now. Everyone says this, yet I’ve seen him several times and think he’s extremely boring. Dude is a statue on stage with no emotion. But always hear about him being the greatest from everyone but the guitar.
They were excited to be doing something different. Now, they’ve mellowed out a lot, especially Derek. I think the stuff Derek was playing on a nightly basis with the Allmans was so complex and intense, that he’s playing in a way that isn’t as mentally exhausting. I mean that in a good way.
