Die Dame hieß Barbara Campanini und war eine der bedeutendsten Balletttänzerinnen des 18. Jahrhunderts. Sie trat im Theater des Potsdamer Stadtschlosses auf. Das sie zeigende Gemälde gehört zu den berühmtesten des französischen Hofmalers Antoine Pesne. Heute kann es im Berliner Schloss Charlottenburg bewundert werden.
