Die Matteucci-Medaille (ital. Medaglia Matteucci) ist nach dem italienischen Physiker Carlo Matteucci (1811–1868) benannt, der sie auch initiiert hatte. Sie wird jährlich von der Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze an Physiker verliehen, die grundlegende Beiträge zur Wissenschaft lieferten.

In 1844, for these studies, Matteucci was awarded with the Copley medal by the Royal Society . From 1847, he took an active part in politics, and in 1860 was chosen an Italian senator, at the same time becoming inspector-general of the Italian telegraph lines. Two years later he was appointed Minister of Education.

An indication of the esteem in which he was held was the award of the Copley Medal by the Royal Society of London in 1844.
