Starpeace is Yoko Ono's 1985 concept album, designed to spread a message of peace around the world as an opposition to Ronald Reagan's "Star Wars"missile defense system. In 1997, Rykodisc reissued Ono's catalog of solo recordings on CD, from Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band through Starpeace. Ono and her engineer Rob Stevens personally remastered the audio, and various bonus tracks were added, including outtakes, demos, and live cuts.
Not the Yoko album I reach for. On paper Starpeace has everything going for it but is ruined by a truly unfortunate Bill Laswell production. Awful power chords, really bad and totally unnecessary back up vocals, overwrought Syn drums, etc. It’s a bummer because Ono’s previous self produced album was one of her very best.
5. Okt. 2010 · The Rykodisc CD rerelease does offer one advantage, though: the bonus live version of John Lennon's "Imagine", sung by Yoko on her 1986 Starpeace tour.
