Even in Darkness wurde im November 2001 knapp ein Jahr nach dem endgültigen Durchbruch von OutKast, die Teil der Dungeon Family sind, veröffentlicht, um ihre dadurch gestiegene Bekanntheit zu nutzen. Allerdings erschien kurz darauf ein Best-Of-Album von OutKast, welches vom Plattenlabel LaFace stärker promoted wurde als Even in Darkness.
In addition to André 3000 and Big Boi of OutKast, Dungeon Family also includes members of Goodie Mob and Organized Noize, along with several other lesser-known affiliates like Cool Breeze and Backbone.
