Hundreds of students from Denver East High School protested at the Colorado State Capitol in the wake of a second deadly student-involved shooting in as many months on March 23, 2023. The day prior, a student shot two adult faculty members before escaping. Police eventually found the student deceased.

1925 East High opened on its present site. The cost of construction was $1,470,000. The school was built as part of a citywide effort to modernize and beautify public buildings, streets and parts called the “City Beautiful” campaign. The architect was Denver native George Hebard Williamson, an 1893 graduate of the “old” East High.
