"Damn The Torpedoes" came out in 1979 and surely could be the least pretentious album in rock history. There is no ridiculous excess; there is no artsy minimalism. It´s only purpose is to be a solid, funny rock n roll album, and because of that, it succeeds marvellously. It was Petty s third album, and the one that brought true recognition to him and his Heartbreakers.
