This seventy-eight-song, Box Set is the consummate, Dobie Gray, Collector’s item. In an interview, recorded at Universal Studios, in Burbank, CA, Dobie recalls, in his own words, his musical journey from 1969 through 1979. Material from this set covers his recordings for the MCA, Capricorn, White Whale, Infinity and Decca Record Labels.
Gray does point out that two of the songs on this album, co-authored by himself and Seals, went on to greater success: "Drive On, Ride On" was recorded by Three Dog Night in 1976, and was sampled by the group Jodici on its 1993 Diary Of A Mad Band CD. The second song from Gray’s album to be highlighted was "Easy Come, Easy Go."
The "Loving Arms" album features the same choice of excellent musicians that graced Drift Away. An addition is the great Charlie McCoy on harmonica. Versions of the song prior to Gray’s include Rita Coolidge and Waylon Jennings. Subsequent versions include Elvis, Ray Charles and Millie Jackson.
Subsequent renditions were by The Righteous Brothers, The 5th Dimension and Soul Survivors. The "In" Crowd is the song which first brought international recognition to Dobie Gray.
