His endeavors were as varied as hosting a variety show with his second wife, Buff Cobb, and writing a column for the New York Post, which became the basis for his first book, Mike Wallace Asks. In 1968, already a veteran of television news shows, he teamed up with producer Don Hewitt to create a new kind of show—a weekly news magazine called 60 Minutes .
